The world outside your
window is only an
illusion to you.
An image that has
never been experienced
or explored.
The cat in the window
wonders, maybe
dreams of things
that only a cat can
dream of.
Lazy as an
August morning,
staring outside
the glass.
Taking time for
a cat nap… or two.
Curled in a furry
black ball of
pointed ears
and whiskers.
Life is so easy,
isn't it little kitty?
Eyes yellow green,
black soft belly that
resists our prying
hands.
You excel at resting
in an almost
amazing display of
feline expertise!
You are unsurpassed.
The afternoon
light passes
through the
winter window.
Warm against the frozen
world that you gaze upon.
A landscape of
black and white with
mounds of snow and
stark, bare
winter trees.
You are not the first
to sit here so proudly.
There once was
another cat who
lived inside this house.
He had found his way
through an open door one
day and slipped silently
into the nighttime world.
For years he prowled
the neighborhood.
Chasing rabbits,
protecting the garden
in our little backyard.
But he never came
home one morning.
Who knows what fate
had in mind.
He is now a memory,
like a dream in
the night.
And now you are
his successor.
The heir to his kingdom.
But you will never
leave the castle.
You will always be safe
inside.
For you are now
the cat in the window.
Gazing through
clear cat eyes
at a world you may
never know.
THE END
